Stuart Pimm’s commitment to the interface between science and policy has led to his testimony to both House and Senate Committees on the re-authorization of the Endangered Species Act. In 1995, he was among the fourteen eminent scientists who defeated the “wise use” movement’s attempt to weaken protection for endangered species habitat before the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also advocated for ecosystem restoration in the Florida Everglades, and setting priorities for protected areas in the Atlantic Coast forest of Brazil.
